Description

Black and white silent film transferred from a 16mm reel. A group of Parsons School of Design students attend a welcome reception and toast with champagne. During this period, 9 Place des Vosges was made available rent-free to Parsons School of Design, which shared the space with a government-run sommellerie. They are served by waiters, possibly sommellerie students, and Parsons faculty alike. At least half of the students smoke. A welcome buffet of what appear to be Napolean pastries and hot dogs appears on screen. Students are then seen walking through the Place des Vosges, as well as visiting other Parisian sites, including the Palais Royal, the Cathedral at Notre Dame, and Ile Saint-Louis. Van Day Truex can be seen mingling with students, all of whom are unidentified with the exception of Mozelle Thompson. The opening credits feature the following text (translations in parentheses): Aout 1948 (August 1948) Un Groupe d'Etudiants (A Group of Students) de la (from) Parsons' School of Design (Parsons School of Design) A Paris (in Paris) 9, Place des Vosges Bienvenue Aux Etudiants (Welcome to Students)
