Description

Interviewed by the dean of Parsons School of Design’s School of Constructed Environments, Brian McGrath, and Wendy Scheir, director of the New School Archives, in McGrath’s office at 25 East 13th Street, New York City. Ziva Gruber recounts her studies at Parsons School of Design, from which she graduated in 1964. Gruber took classes with longtime instructor Stanley Barrows, as well as Allen Tate. Gruber details Parson’s first community design workshop at the Central Park Zoo in 1971, a project in which she participated as a volunteer instructor. She also provides details of her varied working life as a designer. During her career she designed, among other things, the interior of an airplane and uniforms for the pages at Radio Corporation of America.
