Description
My thesis Stay comfortable, arrive alive Midtown tunnel lighting design analyses three basic lighting problems in the tunnel which are glare, contrast and speed. Then it depends on the analysis of IES tunnel lighting book, daylight study and existing lighting system study to explore new daylighting and electric lighting design, which improve the drivers’ visual comfort and create a safer driving experience. Based on the research of IES tunnel lighting book and Midtown -Queens tunnel existing lighting system. I will focus on the tunnel entrance and exit structure and find solutions that reduce glare and help drivers to adapt contrast issues. Also, more lighting strategies will be applied to the tunnel interior zone, which creates a smooth visual transfer to the drivers. Midtown-Queens tunnel can be used as an example to redesign tunnel lighting system and provide a new driving experience for the drivers.
