This thesis seeks to define and provide plausible lighting solutions for the increasing number of small interiors with restricted views within urban architectural context. I selected a small residential interior and a multi-function classroom in the New York metropolitan area to display how light could be incorporated into the existing educational and residential interiors. This thesis will question typical lighting practices and present alternative methods for triggering and shifting a user’s perceptions of small enclosed interiors, and enhancing a users’ experience and comfort in such spaces through a more profound/ considerate/ adequate/ specific lighting techniques and installations.
