From Ash to Apollo (18 months), is a diaristic view of my neighborhood that
unfolds as a larger collection of images in a subtle, yet abstract narrative
illustrating the gaze of a new parent. I am photographing a more intimate and
unique space within Greenpoint, Brooklyn where a parallel exists. Between a
shift in my life as I enter into parenthood and a shift in my neighborhood as it
faces a quick transition into gentrification, this parallel is aligned and visualized
within my photography. The images include interiors, store windows, apartment
windows, discarded trash, litter and shadows. I am visually drawn to the banal
and to the history of this photographic troupe. My work is deeply personal,
slightly mysterious, indexical and calculated. With the life altering process of
having a child, the common place transforms into obstacles that must be
navigated with a new and challenging perspective.
