(sponsoring body)Sally Dennison
In my series, Without a Shadow, I photograph my own image without the intent to accurately represent myself or remain indexical to the subject being photographed. I am using myself as the crude material for each of the images in this series and based on those I am creating new characters solely from and in the digital arena. I am interested in the notion of a “digital truth” and the distance that continues to grow between the photographic image and its conception. When I say “digital truth” I am speaking of the correlation between the digital process and the viewers' suspended sense of disbelief. I am also exploring the body’s evolution as influenced by the medium itself. In the process, I am discovering that the ideal human form is reconstructable and malleable, especially today where the body is not seen as a sacred object but simply an object ready to be manipulated.
