My work revolves around the observations of life when viewed through the filter of death. Such vision has propelled an ongoing search for meaning in the assessment of daily living.1 Most Americans have become accustomed to the cures of modern medicine and do not think of death in tangible form, allowing them to deny human transience through goals aimed towards immortality. In contrast, the loss of multiple cousins brought conscious thought towards mortality at a young age. This resulted in a unique clarity that transcends social facades like an unconsciousness x-ray, detecting and recoiling from layered superficialities.
