Description

People can fall in love with pets and easily get one, but taking care of a pet for the length of its life requires more consideration. According to a report by the American Pet Products Association, millions of pets are abandoned or returned to animal shelters every year. Most common reason is that owners underestimate the responsibilities associated with having a pet, and are not aware of how demanding a situation pet ownership can be. A week with Kiki is a VR project that provides an opportunity for prospective cat owners to learn essential and lesser-known aspects of pet care. With the qualities in virtual reality, my partner Yue Wang and I use an immersive environment to simulate the scenarios that owners might encounter and provide an engaging way to deliver necessary information on common pet issues. For example, users can learn by doing tasks such as cleaning the litter and learn information by interacting with the objects and interface.
