Description
In 2019, OpenAI released GPT-2, a language model capable of generating whole paragraphs of coherent text. As a creative writing tool, GPT-2 is a natural ‘free-writer’: it produces words effortlessly, one after another, each determined by those that came before it. Exciting as its linguistic surprises are, the novelty of the trick eventually wears. When it does, we’re left with a deeper craving: how do we make this stream of words mean something to us? This is where the writer’s job begins. Between the words and below the surface, the writer adds purpose.
