My thesis, “Home in City Fragments” speaks to my interest in the relationship between me and cities, and my memories associated with places where I have lived. This inquiry leads to my design questions - What is the emotional bond between individual and city? How is that bond built? To find out, I conducted interviews, researched journals of psychology and sociology, and analyzed my seven relocation experiences. This paper provides my understanding of the questions from this process that “home” to me, instead of being a single stationary place in a corner of the world, is built by “City Fragments”, those places I have made meaningful through physically presence in cities. This paper also discusses the influential research and precedents and documents the process of iterative prototype process and evaluation.
