Description

NOCO represents a fashion line of my own creation that is inspired by racist stereotypical elements of black identity. It is a play on the derogatory word “coon,” whose origin came from the Portuguese word for the building that was used to house ready-for-sale slaves, baracoon. The fashion line will exist on the Internet as a fully functioning web site, mirroring the online presence of fashion houses. Both the physical and digital thesis components serve as a fine art piece, an “online installation” of sorts, for Internet users to come and explore my artistic point-of-view on the notion of embracing and rejecting “blackness.”
