The Meghdoot is an epic poem of over one hundred stanzas by Kalidas that describes human emotions, meteorological conditions, botanical and natural riches of the country. The author of the poem is Kalidas who was the court poet of Vikramaditya, the Gupta Emperor in the fifth century AD. Thus far, the poem has been represented throughout the centuries by imagery that addresses only the higher and educated classes, in the form of classical arts or translations which were meant for scholars.
My thesis will bring this treasure to the Indian masses of the 21st century by using a combination of digital tools and multimedia that depicts the Kavad folk art folding boxes as a narrative structure familiar to the common people of every class. Creating a digital and complex layered experience with aesthetic description of the beauty of India in the poem will instill them with cultural pride and awareness.
