(architect)New School for Social Research (New York, N.Y. : 1919-1997)
Details for the stairs in the library on the fourth floor of the New School for Social Research's building at 66 West 12th Street. Two staircases behind the librarian's desk on either side ledto the exhibition gallery on the fifth floor above. After the Graduate Faculty formed in 1933, noise from the fifth floor distracted those studying in the library. The stairways were closed off. The library was relocated to adjacent Albert A. List building after the 1950s expansion, and the fourth floor was repurposed for classrooms and offices.
