This audio recording covers one partial panel from the Vera List Center-sponsored conference, Considering Joseph Beuys.

This recording begins part-way through a panel on the topics of Joseph Beuys's spirituality and intellectual roots. The panel is moderated  by Walter Russell Mead and features Friedhelm Mennekes, Bernice Rose, Kim Levin, and Dorothea Franck.

Kim Levin speaks first, on Beuys's self-mythologizing and his involvement with and relationship to Nazi Germany and the Second World War. 

Friedhelm Mennekes begins to speak at 25:30. Mennekes speaks on the form of the "cross" in Beuys's work. 

Bernice Rose speaks from 46:20, continuing on to Side B, on drawing as an intellectual root of Beuys's work.

Dorothea Franck begins to speak at 15:33 on Side B, on the influence of Rudolf Steiner on Beuys.

Questions from the audience to the panel begin at 41:10.
