The photograph depicts an event or class in session in front of Jose Clemente Orozco's murals. Orozco painted a series of murals in 1930 to cover each wall of the dining room on the 5rd floor of the new building of The New School that was designed by Joseph Urban, and open to the public in 1931. The dining room was later often used as classroom. The murals that are the only remaining examples of a Mexican muralist in New York, were restored in the 1980s.
