Image depicts commencement procession, led by marshal holding a ceremonial mace, inside of the First Presbyterian Church near The New School campus in Manhattan's Greenwich Village neighborhood. Students wearing academic regalia face the procession. According to the 1983 commencement program, the marshal was Norman Fainstein. He is followed by New School President Jonathan Fanton and trustee Dorothy Hirshon.
