Description
An unidentified class meeting in the room in The New School's 66 West 12th Street building housing Thomas Hart Benton's American Today murals. Benton painted a series of murals, America Today, in 1930 to cover each wall of the boardroom on the third floor of the new building of The New School that was designed by Joseph Urban, and open to the public in 1931. The boardroom was later turned into a classroom. The murals were purchased by AXA (then Equitable Life) in 1984, and donated to the Metropolitan Museum in 2012, where they are on permanent view.
