Description
Lord & Taylor window display featuring four mannequins that appear to be conversing while holding papers. The display is inspired by the theme "South in the Night", and uses foliage to convey southern scenery, including weeping willows and a fifth mannequin that appears to be covered in moss. The theme relates to the dresses of Traina-Norell's resort and spring/summer 1949 collections, which feature very wide and long skirts that resemble the antebellum fashions of the South. An article from Women's Wear Daily describing these window displays indicates that not all of the dresses featured are by Traina-Norell, although the mannequins on the far left and far right are known to be wearing designs by Norell. (The second dress from the right is by Oleg Cassini.) A newspaper article featuring the dress on the far-right indicates that it's black and white organdy with fragile white organdy blossoms appliquéd on the upper skirt. This photograph was originally part of a larger scrapbook and can now be found in Box OSx-3, Folder 4.
