Dan Arje papers ➔ Bonwit Teller Window Display Featuring Women's Dress with Hat by Tina Leser and Easel with Painting
Bonwit Teller & Co
May 10 1955
8 in (width) x 10 in (height)
Bonwit Teller window display featuring a mannequin wearing an embroidered dress by Tina Leser, necklace, and hat in an outdoor scene beside a painted portrait. The mannequin mimics the pose of the painting. The floor is covered in grass and leafy branches decorate the sides of the window. A banner at the bottom of the display reads "Bonwit fêtes the Watteau look by Tina Leser on our Sports fifth floor." According This display was inspired by the "Watteau look", presumably referring to the style of French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau. It appears that the painting was intended to both highlight the dress and emulate the style of Watteau's paintings.
