My work deals with the human body and its treatment and manipulation within a medical context. It explores fragility, fallibility, and tentativeness of life in relation to the human form, and I take experiences of the body and isolate and abstract them so that one may view them in a new light. In doing so, feelings of both familiarity and disorientation come forward as common threads throughout my practice. The body is the original site of reality; but in my thesis project, Treatment (2012), I treat the film as if it is itself an open wound, a delicate body needing care. Ultimately, the photograph is a surrogate for my body.
