Of his cloud studies, Alfred Stieglitz desired not to make photographs of what he had seen or what it meant to him, but rather to make photographs that would evoke an equivalent of what had initially moved him to create the photograph. It was only afterward he could begin to think about contextualizing its significance. I engage in a similar approach to my practice as an artist, meditating on the relationship between romanticism and uncertainty. Through photography, I seek aesthetic transcendence amidst unknown and my ever-present anxiety. Engaging in a pluralistic practice involving photography, film, installation, and artist books, my work examines natural phenomena often unfathomable to the human mind, and physically intangible to the human experience.
